UFC 137 was a fairly decent card and with the exception of Mitrione vs. Kongo, all the fights were exciting for the most part. There was one fighter that I believe stood out from all the rest. Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone put on another great performance on Saturday night against a tough lightweight in Dennis Siver.
Cerrone took it to Siver early and often in this fight, not giving Siver a chance to breathe. Siver got hit with a nice switch kick early in the fight that glanced off his chin and put him on noodle legs. He was having a hard time keeping his balance, reminded me of Bambi on ice. He did a fantastic job covering up and clinching with Cerrone to avoid more damage allowing him the time to recover. Siver was able to put a few combinations together, but in the end Donald Cerrone proved to be too much for him as he got rocked again later in the round.
Siver gave up his back to Cerrone and had to submit to the rear naked choke or risk going to sleep. Donald Cerrone was never in danger and he showed his superior kickboxing ability for all to see. He has been on a roll, winning his last 4 fights since coming over to the UFC. Cerrone has been fighting nothing but tough competition, even back in his WEC days he fought the best and it will only get tougher from here as it was just announced that he will fight Nate Diaz on December 30th at UFC 141. The winner of this fight may be the next in line to fight for the title or possibly Gilbert Melendez.
