Drew Fickett is an Enigma. He was originally scheduled to fight Jake Shields on the EliteXC "Return of the King" card in Hawaii on June 14th but purportedly suffered an injury that precluded him from fighting. The NHB Show learned from an interview with Jake on the air that unbeknownst to EliteXC, Drew had fought on a card June 7th, despite his injury.

Drew has had problems with promotions in the past. His acrimonious split with the UFC was widely publicized after fighting 6 fights with the popular organization. The NHB Show approached Drew at the time asking him about the split and was soundly rebuffed and told to "mind it's own business".

Jake Shields expressed his dissatisfaction with Drew's decision on the show although he subsequently confirmed his willingness to fight the errant fighter as soon as possible.

The matchup is still intriguing and although Jake might be ready, EliteXC is considering other options. GracieFighter.com is reporting that the organization is looking to cut Drew from the roster.

“Fickett’s decision cost Shields financially as he was left without a fight for the Hawaii card. EliteXC has not been able to contact Fickett and it looks as if they will be dropping him from their organization.”

Jake confirmed to The NHB Show on June 15th that he is scheduled to fight on the next CBS card July 26th, regardless of the availability of Drew Ficke
